Pergolas and PorchesPergolas & Porches
Although they aren’t in the company name, we also build pergolas and porches. As many people will attest to, variety is the spice of life, that is to say, we’re proud to inform people of our different options to beautify their yards. For those that may not know, a pergola essentially a trellis placed flat on top of columns. These can be built separately from your deck if they so desire. A porch, on the other hand, is very similar to a deck with the key difference of being covered overhead. What is a Pergola? We’ve given the very basic definition of what a pergola is, but to specify, there are slightly different ways in which a pergola can be constructed. There are typically two to four columns - two if the pergola is attached to the deck and four if it’s constructed out in the yard. The columns connect to (one or two) horizontal beams that are themselves connected to a series of vertical purlins. Some pergolas actually have braces that attach the column to the beam tail and laths - pieces that lay atop the purlins. They can be built into many different shapes and can even have curved tops. In the yard, pergolas often are used to grow plants and flowers much like trellises are but they also offer shade and can be a stylish way to make a deck truly feel like an outdoor living space. Deck owners can have lighting, fans, and even televisions hung from pergolas and while they don’t have roofs, people do have the option of installing a retractable UV-resistant canopy. |

Porch vs Deck
The fundamental difference between a porch and deck is that the latter doesn’t have overhead covering, or rather isn’t constructed with a connected roof. Porches also have more construction variations than decks do. Screened-in porches, for instance, are the “closed off” version of a typical porch. The screens provide an enclosure that not only feels like an outside room but has the added benefit of keeping away insects and other pests.
Decks, on the other hand, are much better suited for entertaining large crowds as they have a more open floor plan. This generally makes them safer for children and pets. Decks can add an incredible amount of value to a home but unlike their roofed counterparts, they are rather high maintenance. A deck will, however, be less expensive to install than a porch.
What is a Sun Room?
A sun room or solarium is a room that is built in a way that allows for plenty of sunlight to enter and lovely views of the landscape while simultaneously protecting people and their guests from the elements. Sun rooms can be thought of as the advanced version of a screen porch, but instead of screens, there are actual walls.
We are able to build all of these structures to customer's specifications so they don’t have to worry about contacting multiple groups of contractors. We make it possible for our customers to have all of their outdoor living needs conveniently handled by one company.
